Surprisingly Didier Drogba doesn't like a decision
I have always loved Monday mornings. The getting into work, or school as I go back even further, and arguing with all and sundry about what was the best goal, who made the best save or who would win the the league.
On the way in, in the car, the radio station would debate the merits of every team, from Arsenal to Accrington. Everyone has an opinion, and every one is valid.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but we ALL watch football, I'm an Arsenal fan so I have seen football from each end of the spectrum, (no offence George), for goals, skill, those things that we would love to be able to do. I still get goose bumps at the memory of the Liverpool v Newcastle games that ended 4-3.
So, just remind me, who was the referee in those 2 fantastic games? I can remember Collymore, Asprilla, Fowler, Ginola, Mcmanaman et al. But not the referee. Or a single refereeing decision.
Funny that!
So we come to 2007, and the past few years to be honest. It seems to me, with 600 camera angles every time a player wipes his nose, that it's impossible to make a mistake. But only if you are a referee.
Miss an open goal and hey, you scored 2 last week so that's OK. throw one in, and we'll be angry and laugh when we see it on Match of the Day, but didn't you save a penalty in the cup last season.
Award a dodgy penalty (without the aid of a replay mind) and you are a hate figure! And on Monday morning, what a goal from Van Persie, I fancy Liverpool for the title, do Man Utd need another striker.
OH NO!!!!!! That was miles offside! How was that a penalty!! Why wasn't he sent off!!! First topic of conversation. every time. Well aren't referees human? Are they robots?No, they can and will make mistakes. So, let's enjoy football, and not let refereeing become so taboo, that we won't have anyone to take control of the game I, and we love.
