Below: The Windsor & Eton team in training for their FA Cup tie with Aylesbury.
Yes, it's the FA Cup! The world's oldest tournament, watched by millions of people in every country in the world, clustered around their portable TVs. As any football fan knows. But this isn't the glamour of the third round, not even the sort-of-glamour of the first round when you could draw Leeds or Leicester this season. No, this is the pre-qualifying round, the start of a journey that will pass through no fewer than 11 more rounds before we get to the Final. We start our Road to Wembley at the Meadow, Chesham - the 'home' of Southern League Division One Midland side Aylesbury United. The club has a proud history, and reached the third round of the FA Cup in 1995-96 against QPR - becoming famous for striker Cliff Hercules and the players' amusing 'duck walk' goal celebrations. Since those Conference-playing days the club has fallen on hard times, and was forced to vacate their Buckingham Road ground in 2007 to ground-share with nearby Chesham. Windsor and Eton, their opponents, play in the Southern League Division One South and West. The club, known as the Royalists, made the first round on several occasions in the 80s and 90s, and in 1983-84 stood one replay away from a third round tie with Manchester United. We will be following this match - and following the progess of the winners into the First Qualifying Round. ARE YOU UP FOR THE CUP?
