The 33-year-old Austrian returns to full-time racing after a seven year absence to join a Williams team in need of a wise old head to get them back on their feet after a turbulent and highly uncompetitive 2006.

Wurz may have been away from the racing, but he has no shortage of experience, and had a solid three years of experience at Benetton including a podium finish in just his third grand prix.

Five years as McLaren's test driver left him well-rewarded but in the end he craved a race comeback, and after a year as reserve driver for Williams he was promoted when Mark Webber left at the end of the disastrous 2006 season.

Wurz is undoubtedly consistent and is likely to do a good job for Williams - he won't win races but a podium is not out of the question.
