He no longer has to play second fiddle to Michael Schumacher, but Rubens' move to Honda has not yet proved to be the second coming he must have been hoping for - and he enters his second season there a definite number two to Jenson Button.
Formula 1's longest-serving driver (he made his debut for Jordan in 1993) scored fairly regularly in 2006 but qualifying performances were disappointing and he has rarely been able to challenge Button's supremacy within the team.
Honda's early season problems can't have helped Rubens feel comfortable, and it would be a shame if his career was to fizzle out like this.
He certainly has plenty of experience though, and knows what it takes to nurse a car to the finish and it would be a fool who ruled him out of race contention if Honda can get their act together.
