It was also announced this month that airlines are to remove hidden charges when booking on-line. Great! But it's not the hidden charges I am concerned about, it's the ones that are plain to see but cannot be avoided. Last week I booked a return flight from Dublin to London online with Aer Lingus. The One-Euro-each-way fare had me very excited. The extra charges didn't. I had one golf bag to check in and one small bag. This is how the payment worked out:

Return fare - One Euro each way = 2.00

Taxes and charges = 63.96

Handling fee (I did all the work!) = 6.00

One bag checked in both ways (2x5) = 10.00

Golf clubs both ways (2x25) = 50.00

TOTAL = 131.96

My two-Euro fare turned into a 131.96-Euro fare. Now that is the magic of flying!
