It loves long distances
The 787 will carry up to 330 passengers on trips as long as 15,200 kilometres - that's a mighty distance for a jet of this size. The secret to such efficiency is in the construction; the 787 is made up of 50 percent carbon composite materials and another 15 percent titanium, making it far lighter than previous craft.
It gets even leaner by making best use of latest technologies - the one-piece fuselage, for instance, eliminates the need for 40,000 - 50,000 fasteners. Put another way, the plane is about 40,000 lbs lighter than the Airbus A330-200.
