Onboard ailment: Sore limbs and even Deep Vein Thrombosis
Why it happens: Sitting in one position for too long can cause discomfort and pain in joints and limbs - and in rare cases can even lead to dangerous blood clots forming.
How to avoid it: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before and after flying, make small movements (twisting your ankles, tensing legs) to keep the muscles moving, and consider special "flight socks" (available from chemists). Walking around the cabin is also helpful, so find excuses to do so: go and peer out of the door window, wander into the kitchen and pinch some food, or maybe pretend you have lost a child or pet in business class. You could even try out this in-flight workout.
