You won't get many euros for your pound at the moment, so your spending power on a European break will feel diminished. Here are some alternative destinations that don't use the Euro and therefore promise better value this summer...
Croatia
More Brits visited Croatia last year than ever before, drawn by a mix of Mediterranean living and cultural photo-fodder. Its Adriatic coast is by far the main pull, with the country boasting more than 1,000 islands - Hvar, Krk, Rab and Mljet are among the impressive, and often vowel-shunning, offshore options. Island-hopping is, unsurprisingly, a common way of bringing variety to a holiday itinerary.
In the north of the country, the resorts of the Istrian Peninsula have long been popular, while further south the cities of Split and Dubrovnik - both historical jewels, the latter jaw-droppingly so - act as bases for their respective coastal regions. Seafood is usually excellent. Away from the shoreline, meanwhile, capital city Zagreb has strong city-break potential, combining Habsburg architecture with a safe, open feel.
It's generally agreed that Croatia offers a more sophisticated holiday experience than some of its near-neighbours. In other words, you'll have to look pretty hard for a 'Fat Boy's Burger Bar'.
