The lighting and shadows of the Grand Canyon seem to change every five minutes, but few would argue that sunset and sunrise are the finest times to appreciate this natural wonder. The thunderstorms that brew ominously over the canyon in late summer can make for particularly impressive views - and such is the vast expanse between the gorge's walls, you can observe them from a safe (and dry) distance.
