Courchevel, France

Courchevel is the largest ski area in the "Three Valleys" universe and boasts a large number of quality slopes that are skiable all year round thanks to its 523 snow cannons.

Skiing

The exclusive resort, nestled in the breathtaking French Alps, is complete with 65 ski lifts, 102 downhill skiing runs with a combined length of 150km.

There are slopes of all degrees of difficulty, making Courchevel the ideal ski getaway for those looking to improve their skiing while on holiday. By virtue of its excellent snowmaking facilities, the ski season is far longer at Courchevel than at surrounding resorts, making it one of Europe's most reliable destinations.

Ski lessons for children from three years old are also offered by French ski schools, and for children from four upwards by other ski schools. The children are entertained with indoor games and outdoor activities, under the guidance of qualified instructors.

Other activities

If the idea of skiing every day of the vacation doesn't blow your hair back, the town itself is a hub of activity throughout the winter season, with cinemas, beauticians, squash courts, exhibition cookery courses, galleries, language courses and an ice skating rink. The rink is open every day from 3-7pm during high season, with an extra session from 9-11pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The resort

Courchevel consists of five villages, all known by their altitudes. The highest and largest is Courchevel 1850; this is also the most exclusive.

Courchevel is a paradise for the family, with several day-care centres and nurseries that take care of the kids while mum and dad disappear into the snowy heaven nearby.

There are literally hundreds of restaurants in the area, with cuisine ranging from gourmet French to takeaways of all descriptions.

Nightlife is lively and includes bars such as La Saulire, also known as Jack's, Le Kalico, Le Jump and club Les Caves.

Accommodation

Accommodation ranges from slopeside lodges to five star hotels in the centre of town and is not usually difficult to find, though the popularity of the resort ordains that prospective visitors pre-book.
