It's 1981. The year of the Royal Wedding. The Brixton Riots. Bucks Fizz winning the Eurovision Song Contest. And the year that TV detective Gene Hunt takes the Met by storm in Ashes To Ashes.
The distinctly Un-PC, loud-mouthed, sexist DC from the hit drama Life On Mars is back on Thursday in the sequel.
This time his sidekick is female detective Alex Drake who has been shot and wakes up in 1981. Cue good cop/bad cop scenarios and lots of sexual tension. So eight years have passed since we last saw Gene in Life On Mars but thankfully he hasn't changed a bit. Time to dig out that Rubik’s Cube; 1981 here we come!
