Hysteria Lane - back in business

How about painting the fences red?

Never has desperation and housewifery looked so glam. The ladies of Wisteria Lane are back in full swing, doing what they do best, for a third series of Desperate Housewives. Deep breath then as we give you an update on the show's main characters and what's going on behind those doors.

Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria): Gabrielle is the pampered ex-model on the brink of becoming the ex-Mrs Solis after her relationship with Carlos reaches new lows in the aftermath of a disastrous attempt at hiring a surrogate mother.

"Lynette has just seen off her latest foe in spectacular form."

Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman): Lynette has just seen off her latest foe - in the shape of the mother of her husband's love child (fathered pre-marriage - still with us?) - in spectacular form and is struggling to swallow Tom's pizza parlour plans.

Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross): The penny seems to be starting to drop for the Bree after a fairy-tale wedding to the latest psycho to sweep her off her feet. But on the plus side, she seems to be re-bonding with the estranged son she abandoned by the roadside and she has just managed to scupper her daughter's romance with her teacher without her masterful control-freakery being rumbled.

Susan Mayer

Mike who?

Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher): Susan and Mike are once again 'on a break' after he woke up from his coma (caused when Bree's new husband intentionally ran him over) after six months with no memory of Susan. As her rival Edie helps him recover his memory, Susan has thrown in her lot with the Englishman she met (and was romping with when Mike awoke) at the hospital during her six-month vigil tending to the plumber.(Keep up!).

Edie Britt (Nicolette Sheridan): A serial divorcee and man-predator, Edie's spitefulness knows no bounds as she 'fills' Mike in on the two years lost from his memory bank. And gets into his pants.

Desperate Housewives is on Channel 4 on Wednesdays at 10.00pm.
