That JJ Abrams is a mysterious fellow – we'd wager he wears a cape at all times, swishing it about every time he wants to make a point. The brains behind Lost, Alias, Cloverfield and Star Trek turns his lens flare towards 70s-set sci-fi Super 8, which is equal parts Goonies and E.T. – a monster-hunting adventure swathed in mystery. All you need to know is the child performances are magnificent, and the pivotal train crash – which unleashes JJ's beast in spectacular fashion – is definitely one to turn the sound up for.
