Brief history

Whose idea? One from the Phil Redmond stable, who also created Grange Hill and Brookside, Hollyoaks started life in 1995 and followed the antics of a bunch of teenagers in Chester.

Where's it set? In posh Chester, in the fictional borough of Hollyoaks.

The very start: Started off focusing on lighter topics including all manner of angst-inducing topics like teen crushes, clothes and cars.

Controversy! Hollyoaks soon started moving onto tackling more serious issues like male rape, incest, date rape, crime, alcoholism, drugs, death and teacher/pupil romances. There are now several spin-off series’ shown late at night exploring issues of a more, ahem, adult nature.
