Stick Thursday 1 March in the diary, as it’s World Book Day! And it’s not just any World Book Day – it’s the 21st year of the literary festivities.


As well as dressing up as Gandalf and doing a bit of reading, it’s the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in your favourite page-to-screen movie adaptations. Build up to the big day with this lot from Film4...


Tune into One Day (Friday 23 February, 6.55pm) – the adaptation of David Nicholls’ romantic bestseller starring Jim Sturgess (Hard Sun) and Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables). There’s also a version of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, with Keira Knightley and Judi Dench (Sunday 25 February, 3.35pm). And, if you fancy a pretty intense Monday night, there’s the triple-Oscar-winning adaptation of freeborn African American Solomon Northup's 1853 memoir, 12 Years A Slave (Monday 26 February, 11.10pm). This is followed by The Selfish Giant at 1.05am, inspired very loosely by Oscar Wilde's short story.
