Laugh The House down

Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler are the perfect comedy parents in this rib-tickling movie

What happens when you can’t afford to send your kids to college? You start an underground casino, of course!

The House, available from Saturday 14 April in Sky Cinema on demand. Cert 15. Also available in HD

Scott (Will Ferrell, Anchorman) and Kate (Amy Poehler, Parks And Recreation) just want to do right by their daughter, Alex (Ryan Simpkins, A Single Man), and be the best parents they can be. So when they find themselves short of college cash, the obvious solution is to turn their friend’s home into an illegal casino – complete with strip club and bare-knuckle fighting – to raise the money. Yep, there’s definitely nothing these two won’t do for their darling child.

So shove a cushion under the bottom of the door and stick some egg cartons on the walls, because The House is an absolute scream from start to finish! It’s silly, and it knows it. We see Ferrell and Poehler grow from naïve suburban parents to criminal masterminds in the space of 86 minutes. Surprisingly, it’s the first time that these two comedy titans have appeared opposite one another in leading roles, but unsurprisingly, their chemistry is terrific.

The House also stars Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)as the architect of the casino idea, while Allison Tolman (Fargo) and Jeremy Renner (Avengers: Infinity War) will also have you in stitches.

And the talent behind it? Brendan O’Brien and Andrew J Cohen, the duo that brought us Bad Neighbours, Bad Neighbours 2 and Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates. So if you’re looking for piles of light-hearted laughs, you’ve hit the jackpot.
