The Woman In White

From Walford to The Woman In White

EastEnders’  Ben Hardy isn’t the only resident to have left Albert Square behind

Ben Hardy is back on the BBC, and he’s swapping Walford for Wilkie Collins

The Woman In White, Sundays from 22 April, 9pm, BBC One/HD (CH 101/108). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > BBC iPlayer

In a new adaptation of Collins’ Victorian mystery novel, Hardy – who played Ian Beale’s son Peter in EastEnders between 2013 and 2015 – is Walter Hartright, a young art teacher who travels from London to Cumberland to tutor two young women. There, he becomes best friends with the older one and falls in love with the younger.

But, of course, this is no straightforward romance. With ill-advised marriages, mysterious illnesses, some shifty financial goings-on and a lot of injustice, it’s a twisty tale that wouldn’t be out of place on, well, a soap – and it all makes for a gripping five-part drama.

Hardy has already taken Hollywood by storm, starring as Angel in X-Men: Apocalypse and as drummer Roger Taylor in the upcoming Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. And he’s joined in The Woman In White by a high-calibre cast: we’ve got Jessie Buckley (Taboo), Dougray Scott (Taken 3), Olivia Vinall (Apple Tree Yard), Charles Dance (Game Of Thrones) and Joanna Scanlan (No Offence).

So, while Peter Beale is clearly doing well, what has become of some of the other ’Enders actors from way back when? How are they getting on? We’ve tracked them down – with some surprising results…
