The boys are back in town

The chips are down for the boys – and girls! – of Brassic, as a brand new series arrives to Sky Max

By Charlotte Briggs, Staff Writer

The long-awaited return of Joe Gilgun and Danny Brocklehurst’s BAFTA-nominated, critically acclaimed series is finally here! And even after four instalments, this chaotic comedy drama is still packed with pandemonium.

Sky Original series Brassic first hit screens in 2019 and introduced viewers to Vinnie (Gilgun, This Is England), a loveable rogue who’s plagued by a troubled childhood and bipolar disorder. Inspired by Gilgun’s own experiences of growing up in the Lancashire town of Chorley, the series is set in the fictional area of Hawley, where Vinnie survives by any means necessary.

Coming along for the wild ride were his best friend Dylan (Damien Molony, The Split), former wild child Erin (Michelle Keegan, Our Girl), and fellow rebels Tommo (Ryan Sampson, Plebs), Ash (Aaron Heffernan, War Of The Worlds), JJ (Parth Thakerar, Gangs Of London), Cardi (Tom Hanson, The Outlaws) and his pet pigeon Nigel. Together the close-knit pals have been having a laugh while committing petty crimes to get by. Until now…

As the new series begins, things have gone pretty much sideways. After engaging in some risky business, the gang are in heaps of trouble with terrifying baddies the MacDonagh brothers. And the feud may have even turned deadly after Dylan was kidnapped – he’s been missing ever since. Eek! Even Vinnie might not have the street smarts to get himself out of this one.

It's not all doom and gloom though. Vinnie’s got himself a new therapist, played by A Haunting In Venice’s Camille Cottin (pictured below), thanks to a referral from his erratic but well-meaning GP, Dr Chris (Dominic West, The Crown). And inside sources reveal that other spectacular guest stars are set to make an appearance, including legendary Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Mani as well as award-winning comedian Lee Mack. Swish!

Keep your eyes peeled for returning favourites too, including local oddball Farmer Jim (Steve Evets, Gentlemen Jack), Erin’s bestie Sugar (Joanna Higson, Shameless) and Cardi’s wife Carol (Bronagh Gallagher, Pramface). With more hare-brained heists and wacky schemes guaranteed for the gang, we just have one question: will Vinnie and Erin finally get a happy ending?
