Genius: Picasso

Declare your Genius

A Genius idea

Antonio Banderas plays Pablo Picasso in this drama – and we’ve got a picture-perfect quiz to celebrate

When it comes to geniuses, they don’t come much more renowned than this guy…

Genius: Picasso, Mondays from 23 April, 8pm, National Geographic/HD (CH 266/268). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > National Geographic

Even if all you know about art is that the Mona Lisa might be a bloke and that Tracey Emin doesn’t like to make her bed, you’ll still have heard of Pablo Picasso.

In a career spanning almost 80 years, he is estimated to have produced 50,000 works. And the Spanish painter’s life (he reached the grand age of 91) was peppered with tumultuous marriages, explosive affairs and constantly shifting political and personal allegiances. So it’s no surprise that Picasso is the subject of the new season of National Geographic’s biographical anthology show Genius.

While season 1 focused on the life and work of Albert Einstein, this season sees Antonio Banderas (The Legend Of Zorro) pick up a paintbrush to play an older Picasso, while Alex Rich (GLOW) plays the artist’s younger self.

Joining them are Poppy Delevingne (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) and Aisling Franciosi (The Fall), while some of the season 1 cast return including Victoria’s Samantha Colley (who played Einstein’s wife Mileva Maric) and a special appearance from Einstein himself, Lovesick’s Johnny Flynn. Academy Award winners Brian Grazer and Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) return as executive producers.

And now all this Picasso chat has got our creative juices flowing. He’s famous for rearranging facial features in his portraits, and this has inspired us to “do a Picasso” on some famous faces… So can you work out who they belong to?
