Rob and Romesh take on F1 on Sky Max

Start your engines! Join motor-mouthed duo Rob and Romesh in their latest adventure, which takes them into the world of Formula One racing

By Charlotte Briggs, Staff Writer

They say if do what you love then you’ll never work a day in your life. And this couldn’t be truer for award-winning comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan. Not only have they enjoyed stints across primetime telly, national stand-up tours, best-selling books and a podcast or two, but they’ve also tried their hands at some of the most coveted (and unusual) jobs in the world.

In fact, their laugh-out-loud Sky Max comedy series Rob & Romesh Vs has seen them enter the worlds of sport, entertainment, music, gastronomy and more. From training alongside Usain Bolt, Andy Murray, Team GB and the England men’s football team to participating in Krufts, drag performances and fashion shoots with wild animals, there’s nothing that these two can’t do.

The funny men’s adventures have taken them globetrotting too. In Korea they immersed themselves into the fascinating culture of K-Pop while in Las Vegas they put on a spell-binding magic show with world-famous performers Penn & Teller. And the pair even managed to get an audience with the most elusive man on earth when they met Father Christmas in Lapland.

Now Rob and Romesh are gearing up for the thrilling and ultra-competitive world of Formula One motor racing. In a two-part special, Rob and Romesh get to hang out with Team Mercedes at the site of the most glamorous event of them all: the Monaco Grand Prix.

They also meet Mercedes’ superstar drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who show them exactly what it takes both on and off the track to become the best in the game. Plus, Rob and Romesh try their best to impress Mercedes’ Team Chief Toto Wolf, who puts them through their paces in a series of high-tension challenges to see if they’ve got what it takes for a job on Team Hamilton. No pressure then!

Find out if Rob and Romesh put the pedal to the metal or spin out before the finish line in this two-part special starting on Thursday 15 February at 9pm on Sky Max HD (CH 111).

Can’t get enough of comedian pairings that have you in stitches? Us too. Rob and Romesh have proved themselves to be a brilliantly matched modern double act, but who are the other comics consciously coupling on our TVs these days? And where can you tune in for double the laughs? We run down the best new comedy double acts and where to find them on Virgin TV.

Paul Whitehouse & Bob Mortimer

Whitehouse and Mortimer have both enjoyed success in the comedy industry since the 1990s, but it’s their recent collaborative efforts that have made them national treasures. Laugh along with these two old friends who perfectly complement each other’s wit and charm while sharing life-affirming lessons and hilariously sage wisdom while fishing in the waterways of the UK and Ireland.

Ed Gamble & James Acaster

Scrape-prone stand-up Acaster and foodie funnyman Gamble have been presenting their stomach-rumble-inducing hit podcast Off Menu since 2018, and listeners love their rapport – as demonstrated by recent sell-out shows at the Royal Albert Hall. They brought their off-the-wall double act to TV in the fifth series of Celebrity Hunted, in which they (obviously) enjoyed a sit-down meal and some cocktails while supposedly trying not be caught.

Greg Davies & Alex Horne

After 16 series and seven specials, Taskmaster presenting duo Greg Davies and “Little” Alex Horne have their act down to a fine art: Davies is the blustering dictator belittling everyone’s efforts, while Horne is the sneaky puppetmaster who’s really in charge, even if Davies has the title of Taskmaster (and his head as the trophy). We’ve been roaring with laughter at their squabbling since 2015 and we’re still excited about the upcoming 17th series.

Matt Lucas & Elis James

Lucas’ silly and imaginative humour combined with James’ whimsical storytelling made these two footie fanatics the natural choice to co-host the reboot of Fantasy Football League on Sky Max. Expect big lols as well as being left impressed with the duo’s passion for the beautiful game.

Ellie White & Natasia Demetriou

Having met at Bristol University, White and Demetriou have spent years honing their double act with characters like the Mum’s The Word vloggers, Beverley and Cassandra, and starred in Stath Lets Flats alongside Demetriou’s brother Jamie. But their talents and chemistry are best showcase by their self-titled BBC sketch show, filled with razor-sharp satire, feminist fury and some very creative (and slightly bizarre) characters.

David Mitchell & Lee Mack

When we say “David Mitchell” and “double act” you might think of Mitchell’s Peep Show co-star and sketch partner Robert Webb. However, in recent years some of Mitchell’s funniest TV moments have come in the Would I Lie To You? studio when sparring with Lee Mack. Mitchell’s barbed jabs and comic frustration are the perfect foil for Mack’s quickfire, gag-based humour and they – along with host Rob Brydon and some brilliant guests – have made WILTY? one of the most reliably entertaining shows on TV.

Nish Kumar & Josh Widdicombe

Josh Widdicombe’s hysterical style of observational comedy pairs perfectly with Nish Kumar’s satirical takes as they try being local journalists for publications around the UK in Sky Max’s Hold The Front Page. The duo’s shared curiosity, inquisitive nature and quick-witted smarts make them ideally qualified to hunt out the most intriguing stories and share them with audiences – plus they look like they’re having a great time doing it together.
