“I know my place in the business”

Scott Grimes, star of Seth MacFarlane’s new sci-fi comedy, talks hot dogs, hair dye and having a happy crew

As if Seth MacFarlane hasn’t already given us enough with Family GuyAmerican Dad! and Ted, he’s gone and done it again!

Thursdays, 9pm, FOX/HD (CH 157/199). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > FOX

The Orville is a live-action space comedy extravaganza that’ll appeal to Peter Griffin and Jean-Luc Picard fans alike.

The show follows the exploits of mid-level exploratory spaceship the USS Orville, 400 years in the future. As the people and aliens who inhabit the ship discover, facing the problems of everyday life while enduring the trials and tribulations of outer space is by no means straightforward. Broken hearts, frosty diplomatic relations and Rob Lowe as a blue alien – you name it, The Orville’s got it.

So if a star-studded Red Dwarf gets you excited, go ahead and turn this on. With a cast including MacFarlane as Captain Ed Mercer, Adrianne Palicki (Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D) as his ex-wife, Scott Grimes (American Dad!) as Mercer’s best friend and some out-of-this-world guest stars – including Charlize Theron and Liam Neeson – you’re in for one outrageous, intergalactic ride!

We caught up with Scott Grimes, previously seen in Band Of Brothers and ER and heard as the voice of Steve Smith in American Dad!, to get some secrets from on board the ship…
