Mr Bates Vs The Post Office

Available now on ITVX

This four-part drama has been winning plaudits and huge audiences for its heartbreaking depiction of the true events that saw hundreds of innocent postmasters and postmistresses around the UK convicted of false accounting, theft and fraud. There is inspiration to find in their story, too; Toby Jones (Detectorists) plays one of the falsely accused who bands together the Justice For Subpostmasters Alliance in order to fight, and win against, this terrible miscarriage of justice.

Trigger Point

Series 2 begins in January on ITVX. Series 1 available now

Ticking countdowns, loud bangs and moments of ridiculously high tension… it’s the return of the pacy, wildly suspenseful series Trigger Point. The second instalment of this critically acclaimed crime drama sees Vicky McClure (Line Of Duty) reprising her role as Lana Washington, a police bomb disposal expert in charge of averting a complex terrorist attack on London. Sweaty palms guaranteed.

Dancing On Ice

Series 16 available now on ITVX. Series 14+15 also available

Few reality series combine glamour and jeopardy as successfully as Dancing On Ice. Series 16 glides onto our screens this January and is set to be as full of thrills and spills as ever, with S Club 7 singer Hannah Spearrit, actor Claire Sweeney (Coronation Street) and former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton among the line-up of delightfully wobbly novice skaters. Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern share hosting duties while skating pros Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and dancers Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse make up the judging panel.

Love Island All-Stars

Available now on ITVX

A luxury villa in South Africa, raucous games and challenges to play every day, and a cluster of impossibly beautiful singletons all looking for romance… can you blame the Love Island graduates for wanting to give the series a second go? Host Maya Jama returns to stir things up between a roster of contestants who have turned heads over the dating show’s spicy 10-year history, including Georgia Harrison from series 3 and Luis Morrison from season 1. We’re not going to miss a single minute.

Olivia Attwood: The Price Of Perfection

Available from Thursday 18 January on ITVX

Attwood, a Love Island veteran who has undergone various cosmetic treatments and surgeries, makes for a compassionate host of this revealing docuseries. She understands better than most the pressure for physical perfection that inspires many to go under the knife, laser or needle – as well as the emotional toll that these aspirations and procedures can take. With each episode dedicated to the quest to perfect a different body part, Attwood interviews practitioners and meets the patients who are prepared to endure astonishing – and torturous – treatments, sometimes with disastrous results.

After The Flood

Series 1 available now on ITVX

With a complex plot that encompasses a whole range of human experience, this mystery thriller tells the story of a community devastated by a terrible flood, and the determined police officer (Sophie Rundle, Peaky Blinders) investigating a murder that may or may not be connected to the disaster. Philip Glenister (Life On Mars) and Nicholas Gleaves (The Crown) also star.

Born From A Stranger

Coming soon to ITVX

Many legal and ethical issues arise from the world of anonymous sperm donors and their genetic offspring, and these grey areas come under scrutiny in ITVX’s fascinating four-part documentary. The show also explores age-old themes of genetic versus learned identity, following some of the people born via anonymous donation as they’re reunited with their unknown blood relatives around the world. You’ll be glued to this intriguing and often emotional study of a relatively new phenomenon.

Sorry For Your Loss

Seasons 1+2 available now on ITVX

Elizabeth Olsen starred in the recent true-crime drama Love & Death (also available on ITVX), a title that could also be applied to this heartfelt series. Olsen plays Leigh Shaw, an advice columnist whose husband has recently died, leaving her traumatised, directionless and uncertain of her place in the world. Despite the tragic premise, it’s an uplifting show, full of wisdom and honesty about how people navigate grief – and it’s often unexpectedly hilarious. Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Janet McTeer (Ozark) co-star.

The Winter King

Available now on ITVX

This hugely ambitious period epic, loosely based on Bernard Cornwell’s bestselling Warlord Chronicles book series, stars Iain De Caestecker (The Control Room) as Arthur Pendragon – the future King Arthur. Having been exiled by his pugnacious father Uther (Eddie Marsan, The Thief, His Wife And The Canoe), Arthur returns to Britain looking to reclaim his birthright. Muddy, gritty and moody, it’s an authentic and gripping tale of Dark Ages Britain, with some impressively bloody battle scenes.
