Storms hit the UK

The worst storm of the winter is wreaking havoc across Britain, with gale-force winds of over 80mph battering coastal areas.

South Wales and the South West are seeing the roughest conditions as trees are uprooted, tiles torn off roofs and power lines severed, leaving around 4,500 homes without electricity.

In Brixham, south Devon, wind speeds of 82mph were registered in Berry Head, while the Needles off the coast of the Isle of Wight experienced gusts of 70mph.
