Paisley gets ultrafast broadband boost

Ultrafast broadband now available to up to 2,800 premises in Paisley

Offering speeds more than 10 times faster than the local average

Virgin Media announces its ultrafast broadband and entertainment boost is now available to up to 2,800 homes and businesses in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Virgin Media has now opened up its ultrafast broadband network to residents and businesses in the Ferguslie Park area of Paisley offering speeds of up to 350Mbps. This transforms the quality of broadband in the area where the average (median) download speed is just 33.9Mbps*.

With a 350Mbps connection, files, films and games become unbelievably quick to stream, download and upload:

• Download a standard HD movie file (5GB) in just over two minutes, compared to more than 20 minutes on the average local connection;
• Download a 25GB console game in just over 10 minutes, compared to more than 100 minutes on the average local connection**

Renfrewshire Council leader Iain Nicolson said: “Good broadband speeds are now essential for everyday life. The council has already invested £1m to provide free public wifi across Paisley, Renfrew and Johnstone town centres, and this year set aside £2m for ultrafast broadband in public buildings and schools – so we welcome any private-sector investment which complements that.

“Having fast reliable broadband influences people’s decisions over where to live – and that of companies over where to invest – so this builds on the work we are already doing to promote Renfrewshire as a great place to live, work and visit.”
