Virgin Media brings ultrafast speeds to homes in thousands of homes in Burton upon Trent

Virgin Media has connected 5,400 homes in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, to its ultrafast broadband network which will bring the UK’s fastest widely available speeds to the area.

As part of its ‘Project Lightning’ network expansion programme, Virgin Media is expanding its ultrafast broadband network across the UK, bringing average top speeds of more than 600Mbps to residents and small businesses.

Burton upon Trent is the latest area to benefit from Virgin Media’s investment and later in the year, local residents are set to benefit from Gig1 broadband offering speeds of more than 1,000Mbps as the firm rolls out next-generation gigabit connections to its entire network of 15 million homes by the end of 2021.

Virgin Media has continued to expand its network and install new customers during the global COVID-19 pandemic to bring ultrafast connectivity to more homes and businesses across the UK when they need it most.

Ultrafast broadband boost for Burton upon Trent residents – now 15 times faster than the local average

Burton upon Trent residents will benefit from fibre to the premises (FTTP) technology which allows for smooth, reliable connectivity in the home.   • Download every Bridgerton episode in UHD (56GB) in 12 minutes 43 seconds, compared to three hours 20 minutes on the average local connection;
  • Download Call of Duty Cold War (133GB) on PS5 in just over 30 minutes, compared to over 7 hours and 56 minutes on the average local connection**
