14 June 2017
Ultrafast Voom Fibre connectivity for hundreds of businesses in Sheffield and Leeds
Virgin Media Business today announced it is powering up hundreds of businesses in Sheffield and Leeds by bringing its ultrafast Voom Fibre connectivity, which offers download speeds of up to 350Mbps, to the city centres.
According to Ofcom, the median broadband speed in Sheffield is 15.4Mbps and 20.3Mbps in Leeds. This upgrade will deliver entry-level speeds more than 17 times faster than the cities medians to businesses in the areas, opening them up to new business opportunities and growth potential.
Voom Fibre, which offers ultrafast download speeds of up to 350Mbps as standard, was launched by Sir Richard Branson on 2 May with prices starting from £30 per month. Businesses can choose a variety of upload speeds depending on their requirements.
Peter Kelly, Managing Director, Virgin Media Business, said:
Too many office blocks and small businesses in Sheffield and Leeds are stuck in the analogue age and businesses are suffering as a result. By expanding our ultrafast network into the bustling city centres, we can transform hundreds of businesses and give them the connectivity they deserve.
We’re on a mission to help small business thrive by giving them more speed than they need through our new, market disrupting broadband, Voom Fibre.
To make all of this happen the cooperation of local councils and landlords is essential to getting planning approvals so that office blocks and business premises are connected without delay.”
Supporting small businesses beyond ultrafast broadband
To give Sheffield and Leeds’ small businesses and entrepreneurs the opportunity to network with experts, attend workshops and find out more about starting a small business, Virgin Media Business will be bringing “The Voom Bus”, which is touring the country, to:
- Fargate, near Sheffield Town Hall, on Tuesday, 20 June, between midday and 6pm
