How to save contacts to mobile phone


Before learning how to backup your phone’s contacts, it’s important that you know the proper ways to save a new contact to your phone.

How to save contacts on iPhone

There are several different ways that you can save a new contact to your iPhone.


The Phone App

  1. Open the phone app and tap Contacts.
  2. Tap the + on the top of the screen to add a new contact
  3. Enter the contact information
  4. Tap Done to finalise

The iCloud

  1. Open the Settings app and select Contacts
  2. Tap Accounts then select Add Account
  3. Select the iCloud option.
  4. Enter your iCloud account information and sign in. Your iPhone should begin automatically transferring the contacts saved to your iCloud account.

Text message

If you receive a text from a new number and would like to save this number to your contacts, follow these steps:

  1. In the Messages app, select the conversation with the new contact you would like to add.
  2. Tap the “i” icon in the top right of the screen. This will display the contact’s information and options.
  3. Tap on the phone number you wish to add as a contact.
  4. Tap Create New Contact
  5. Fill in the contact information of the person then tap Done to confirm.

How to save contacts on Android

Contacts app

  1. Open the Contacts app on your phone.
  2. Tap the “**+**” symbol at the bottom of the screen.
  3. In the top left, select where you would like to save the new contact. You can save it to your phone, your SIM card, or to a Google account.
  4. Enter the contact information.
  5. Tap Save to finish.

Text message

If you want to add a contact from a text message, here is how you do it:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap the conversation with the contact you want to add.
  3. Tap the three dots on the top right of your screen to bring up the options menu.
  4. Tap Add to Contacts under the number you wish to add.
  5. Enter the contact information.
  6. Tap Create contact to finish

SIM card

If you have a new phone and want to transfer your contacts from an old SIM card, complete the following steps:

  1. Insert the SIM card into the Android phone.
  2. Open the Contacts app.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right of the screen to bring up the options menu.
  4. Select Manage contacts.
  5. Tap Import/Export contacts.
  6. Select Import
  7. Here you can choose where you want to move your contacts. To move contacts from a SIM card, you first need to select SIM card, then choose which contacts you want to import. Tap Done when you’ve made your selection.
  8. You now can choose where you would like to move your contacts. You can transfer them to your phone’s internal storage, or you can sync them to a Google account.
  9. Tap Import to finish.

How to save contacts on Windows phone

People app


  1. Open the People app.
  2. Tap the “**+**” icon.
  3. Enter the contact information.
  4. Tap the “” symbol to confirm.

How to save contacts to phone

Saving your contacts to your phone means that the information is saved directly on the device, allowing you to save more contacts and keep your contacts if you change the phone’s SIM card.

iPhone

If you have an iPhone, contacts are automatically saved to your phone rather than your SIM card, so you won’t need to do anything to save them to your phone before swapping your SIM

Android phone

When saving a new contact, Android phones give you the option to save the contact either to your phone or to your SIM card. This is where you can initially choose to save contacts to your phone. If you want to transfer contacts saved on your SIM to your phone, you can do so by following these instructions:

  1. Swipe up on your home screen to go to your apps list
  2. Select your Contacts
  3. Tap on the three dots at the top of your screen and select Manage contacts
  4. Select Import/Export contacts
  5. Select Import
  6. In the From section, select SIM card, then you can choose to either select specific contacts or select all of your contacts.
  7. In the To section, select Internal Storage
  8. When you’re ready, tap Import and your chosen contacts will be transferred from your SIM card to your phone’s internal storage.

In the Manage contacts menu you can also select the default location your contacts will be saved to in future, so you don’t have to go through this process again.

Windows phone

To save contacts to your Windows phone rather than your SIM card, just follow the instructions below:

  1. Tap People then tap Menu at the bottom (three dots)
  2. Tap Settings - Import from SIM
  3. Pick the contacts you want to move then tap import.
