How do I change the Virgin Media Hub’s wireless channel?

What Hub do you have?

Hub 3 or Hub 4

Unless you have a specific reason to do so, we do not recommend manually changing the WiFi channel on the Hub. If you are experiencing issues with your broadband connection, see our step-by-step guide for improving slow WiFi speed.

If you still want to manually set your WiFi channel:

  1. Access the settings page by entering the web address shown on the Hub sticker. For a step-by-step guide, see Configure Advanced Settings on the Virgin Media Hub
  2. Click Advanced settings, then Wireless and then Wireless signal.
  3. Tick the box next to Manual which will enable the drop-down menu and choose a channel. There are different options for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channel.

  1. Click Apply changes and then close the browser window to exit the administration interface.

If you experience a loss of WiFi connection from any of your computers after you change the channel, restart the affected machines and they should automatically reconnect to the WiFi network on the correct channel.

If you are unable to re-establish your WiFi connection after changing the channel, connect your computer to the Hub via Ethernet cable and then change the channel back to its previous setting, or try an alternative channel. If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to reset the Hub back to its original setting. See Resetting the Virgin Media Hub for how to do this.

Super Hub 1, 2 or 2ac

Unless you have a specific reason to do so, we do not recommend manually changing the WiFi channel on the Super Hub. If you are experiencing issues with your broadband connection, see our step-by-step guide for improving slow WiFi speed.

If you still want to change the Super Hub’s WiFi channel:

  1. Access the settings page by entering the web address shown on the back of your Super Hub. For a step-by-step guide, see Configure Advanced Settings on the Virgin Media Hub
  2. Click Wireless Network Settings
  3. In the Security Settings area, use the Channel drop-down menu to choose a channel. There are different options for the 2.4GHz channel and the 5GHz channel

Note: If you experience a loss of WiFi connection from any of your devices after you change channel, restart the affected devices and they should automatically reconnect to the WiFi network on the correct channel.

If you are unable to re-establish your WiFi connection after changing the Super Hub’s channel, connect your device to the Super Hub via an Ethernet cable. You then need to change the channel back to its previous setting or try another channel. If this doesn’t work, you’ll need to reset the Super Hub back to its original settings. See Resetting the Virgin Media Hub for more guidance.
