How do I set up port fowarding and port triggering on my Virgin Media hub?

Hub 3.0

How to set up Port Forwarding

1. Access the Hub 3.0 settings page via the web page show on the bottom of the device. For a guide on how to do this, please see Configure Advanced Settings on your Virgin Media Hub

2. Click Advanced Settings on the left hand menu and then click the Security option

3. Click Port forwarding

4. You can create a custom rule by specifying the following settings in the Add Rule section

  • Local IP
  • Local start port
  • Local end port
  • External start port
  • External end port
  • Protocol

5. Click Add to confirm the new port-forwarding rule

That's it! Your rules have been set up. You can now close the browser window.

How to set up Port Triggering

Follow steps 1 and 2 in the port forwarding instructions above.

1. Click Port triggering

2. Click Add rule

3. For each port trigger rule that you would like to create, enter the following settings:

  • Trigger Range: the trigger range consists of the range of outgoing ports that will be monitored to trigger the incoming port forwarding rule:
    – Start Port: enter the start port for the trigger range
    – End Port: enter the end port for the trigger range
  • Target Range: the target range consists of the range of incoming ports that will be opened when triggered:
    – Start Port: enter the start port for the target range
    – End Port: enter the end port for the target range
  • Protocol: select the protocol for the ports:
    – TCP: selects TCP only
    – UDP: selects UDP only
    – TCP&UDP: selects both TCP and UDP

4. Select On for the Enabled option

5. Click Add rule

That's it! Your rules have been set up. You can now close the browser window.

   

  

Super Hub 2ac

1. Access the Super Hub’s settings page via the web page show on the back of the unit. For a guide on how to do this, please see Configure Advanced Settings on your Virgin Media Hub.

2. Click Advanced Settings at the bottom and you will see this screen.

To proceed with either port forwarding or port triggering, follow the relevant instructions below.

To set up port forwarding

3a. In the Security section, click Port Forwarding.

You will see a table similar to this:

3b. In the Predefined Rule section, select a service from the Service drop-down menu.

3c. Optionally, you can also create a custom rule that is not in the list of predefined services by specifying the following settings in the Add Rule section:

  • Name: enter a name for the service
  • Start Port: enter the start port for the service
  • End Port: enter the end port for the service
  • Protocol: Select the protocol for the ports:
    – TCP: selects TCP only
    – UDP: selects UDP only
    – TCP&UDP: selects both TCP and UDP
  • IP Address: enter the local IP address for the computer that is using the service

3d. Click Add Rule to confirm the new port-forwarding rule and then click Apply.

That's it! Your rules have been set up. You can now close the browser window.

To set up port triggering

4a. Click Advanced Settings at the top of the page

4b. In the Security section click Port Triggering

4c. For each port trigger rule that you would like to create, enter the following settings:

  • Trigger Range: the trigger range consists of the range of outgoing ports that will be monitored to trigger the incoming port forwarding rule:
    – Start Port: enter the start port for the trigger range
    – End Port: enter the end port for the trigger range

 

  • Target Range: the target range consists of the range of incoming ports that will be opened when triggered:

    – End Port: enter the end port for the target range

     

  • Protocol: select the protocol for the ports:
