How do I use Virgin Mobile Voicemail?

Last updated: September 24, 2018

Activating Your Voicemail

Your voicemail should automatically activate as soon as you switch on your new phone. If this hasn’t happened, don’t worry, you can switch it on manually by following these simple steps:

  1. Log into Your Account
  2. Click on Plan and device
  3. Click on Manage services
  4. From there you can select the option to turn on voicemail

If that doesn’t do the trick, you can also:

  • Dial 222 from your mobile and listen to the message until the end
  • Keep your phone on for 20 minutes. If you get a text that says PERS, ignore it
  • After 20 minutes, turn your phone off and on again

Voicemail Features

When you activate your Voicemail you will have different features depending on whether you have a Pay Monthly plan or Pay As You Go plan. You can see the difference between our Voicemail features below:

Voicemail Type

Standard

Plus
Total Number of Messages (per mailbox)

10

30
Message Length (seconds) 90 180
Days kept un-played (with auto-discard) 3 21
Days kept Played (with auto-discard) 3 21

If you have a Pay Monthly plan, you'll automatically be set up on Voicemail Plus.

If you have a Pay As You Go plan you'll be set up on Voicemail Standard, but you can upgrade to Voicemail Plus for a one time £5 fee. To upgrade to Voicemail Plus, just call 789 from your Virgin mobile phone.

Now your voicemail’s set up. If you need any further help, select an option below.

Your voicemail already comes with a standard greeting, but it's a good idea to record one of your own – that lets people know they've dialled the right number.

Here's how:

  • Call your voicemail (usually this means holding down the key on your phone or dial 222 from your handset)
  • Choose option 2 from the first menu (Greetings) and follow the instructions from there

A PIN number will protect your voicemail and lets you pick up your messages from any touch tone phone.

Here's how to set your PIN

  • Call your voicemail (usually this means holding down the ’1’ key on your phone or dial 222 from your handset)
  • Choose option 3 from the first menu (settings & features) and follow the instructions from there

Your PIN

  • Must be from 4 to 10 digits long
  • Can't be a single digit repeated (like 1111)
  • Can't be an ascending or descending sequence (like 1234 or 7654)
  • Can't be your phone number or part of it
  • Can't be 78902580 or 1210
  • Can't be the same as a previous PIN

To access voicemail from your mobile phone

  • Call your voicemail (usually this means holding down the ’1’ key on your phone or dial 222 from your handset)
  • If you're not sure which button to press, check out our Virgin Mobile Phone Support
  • If you’ve set a PIN you’ll be prompted to enter your PIN

To access your voicemail from another phone

  • Call your Virgin Mobile number from another phone and let it go to voicemail
  • Interrupt your voicemail greeting by pressing *
  • Enter your voicemail PIN
  • You'll then be able to access your voicemail as if you were dialling it from your mobile

There's a really quick and easy way to extend the amount of time your phone rings for before voicemail kicks in.

Here's how to update your ring time:

If you’ve not had a new SIM since December 2017

To extend the ring time to 30 seconds, first enter this code into your phone: **61*+447953222222**30#. Next, press the call or answer key - your phone will do the rest.

If you’ve had a new SIM since December 2017

To extend the ring time to 30 seconds, first enter this code into your phone: **61*+447458333222*11*30#. Next, press the call or answer key - your phone will do the rest.

You can alter this to ring for 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 seconds by replacing **30# with your choice of seconds. E.g. enter **15# if you want it to ring for 15 seconds. The most you can extend it to is 30 seconds.

Message alerts are free text messages that are sent to your phone whenever you are left a voicemail, but you can choose whether you receive these message alerts.

This won’t change the voicemail indicator if your phone supports this.

To change your voicemail alerts:

  • Call your voicemail (usually this means holding down the key on your phone or dial 222 from your handset)
  • Select option from the main menu, you will be given options, press 2
  • The recorded message will tell you if your alerts are on or off, if you would like to change the status of your alerts press 1
  • You will then need to press 1 again to change the staus

You can do this whenever you want to change the status of your message alerts.

Voicemail diverts will send your calls to voicemail in certain situations, like when your phone is switched off. To adjust these on your phone see our Virgin Mobile Phone Support.
