Why we’ll never say bye to American Pie

Why we’ll never say bye to American Pie

Here’s to the tasty teen comedy that defined a generation

It may be almost 20 years since the first American Pie film appeared on our screens, but it’s the gift that will always keep on giving

Watch American Pie. Friday 19 January, 9pm, ITV2/HD (CH 115/176)

Ah, we can still remember how that music used to make us smile. Yes, the sweet memories of that flute will always put a grin on our faces. It was 1999 when we first met the East Great Falls teens – Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs, Orange Is The New Black), Chris “Oz” Ostreicher (Chris Klein, Just Friends), Kevin Myers (Thomas Ian Nicholas, Walt Before Mickey), Seann William Scott (Dude, Where’s My Car?) and Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas, Harold & Kumar) – who are all on their own personal journeys to get with girls, while awkwardly attempting to leap over the hurdles of hormones, high school social hierarchies and interfering parents.

We also have American Pie to thank for introducing Tara Reid (Sharknado), Mena Suvari (American Beauty) and Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is The New Black) into our lives.

So as January gets under way, and we’re all looking for some cheering up, anyone who serves us this with lashings of cream will be in our good books. And you’re spoilt for choice this Friday, as over on E4 American Reunion – the 2012 fourth instalment in the franchise – is showing. While we can’t make the decision for you as to which one you should watch, we can take you for a walk down memory lane with the film that launched a thousand memes. Here is why American Pie is still such a treat, nearly two decades on…
