What do you get when you cross Lord Of The Flies, Mean Girls, Stranger Things and Lost?

The A List, available now on BBC iPlayer

You get The A List! Well, that’s how the stars of the show describe it anyway – and they’ve hit the nail on the head. The BBC has created a stream of new teen dramas, with supernatural series The A List at its head.

This new area of programming aims to carve out a space for the 13 to 15-year-old audience, with shows that explore the moral dilemmas and concerns faced by teenagers.

Written by Dan Berlinka and Nina Metivier, and starring a diverse and relatively new British cast, The A List follows 12 teens who arrive at Peregrine Island for a summer camp. But it soon becomes clear that they won’t be spending their time toasting marshmallows and singing “Kumbaya” around a campfire. Mia (Lisa Ambalavanar) wants to reign unchallenged over her loyal camp subjects – but Amber (Ellie Duckles) has other ideas…

When Amber takes Mia’s bunk, steals her friends and moves in on Dev (Jacob Dudman) – the boy Amber had set her sights on – the fight to become queen bee is well and truly on. But something’s not quite right about Amber, and with the whole camp set abuzz by the infighting, no-one seems to notice the almighty sting Amber is packing.

The A List is available to view on BBC iPlayer until the middle of December, and there’s even more teen entertainment heading to the BBC in early 2019, including behind-the-scenes documentaries like Teen Taxi and I’m Not Driving That, and a sex-education special from YouTuber Mimi Missfit. There’s also a new series on the Scottish teens of Logan High, a series of programmes from twin doctors Chris and Xand van Tulleken on mental health and alcohol, and mini documentary series exploring the transition from teenhood to adulthood, which includes shows such as Boys To MenLife After Care and The Great Eco Build.

First, though, to whet your appetite for this teen drama takeover, we caught up with The A List stars Ellie, Lisa and Jacob to chat about how they brought their A game to their first major TV role…
