Statue of Ronaldo

Match the statue to the football star!

Match the statue to the football star!

With the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals ready for kick off, can you link the footy legend to their sculpture?

The beautiful game has an ugly history of celebrating its legends. We take a closer look…

UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, from Tuesday 3 April, BT Sport

As a footballing icon, having a stadium (Ferenc Puskás), airport (George Best) or asteroid (Johan Cruyff) named after you is all well and good, but things start to get unpredictable when your illustrious career is commemorated with a statue.

They may be created with the very best of intentions, but when an artist whips out the cast metal and gets to work on something they hope will do their subject justice, the results veer between the classy and “My eyes! My poor eyes!”

Cristiano Ronaldo (who will be taking to the field with Real Madrid against Juventus in the upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-finals) is among the football greats who have been immortalised via the fickle medium of sculpture.

Can you guess who the statues below are meant to represent?
