The new Premier League season provided us with even more excitement over the weekend, with shock results, wonder goals and dazzling individual performances.

Read on for our round-up…

1. Result of the weekend

Brighton 3-2 Manchester United

United may have lost this fixture last season, but was lightning really going to strike twice? Turns out it was. The Seagulls put the Red Devils to the sword on the south coast, stunning their star-studded visitors with three goals in the first half. José’s men definitely have a new bogey team.

2. Goal of the weekend

Andre Gray (Watford) v Burnley

Momentarily forgetting that he was in Lancashire, Gray’s superb volley against Burnley was the sort of thing you’re more likely to see on Copacabana Beach than a football pitch. A tantalising cross from Troy Deeney was met perfectly by his Watford teammate, who rifled the ball past Joe Hart with laser-like precision.

3. Performance of the weekend

Sergio Agüero (Manchester City) v Huddersfield Town

Rampant. Unstoppable. Relentless. However you describe it, Agüero’s devastating display against Huddersfield was something very special indeed. City’s top dog now has nine Premier League hat-tricks – only Alan Shearer has more with 11.

4. Manager of the weekend

Eddie Howe (Bournemouth)

It’s now two wins in two for Bournemouth after Eddie Howe steered them to an exciting comeback victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium. Last season wasn’t particularly sweet for the Cherries, but they’ve started this campaign in style.

5. Ridiculous assist of the weekend

Ederson (Manchester City) v Huddersfield Town

Is there anything City’s goalkeeper can’t do? During his side’s 6-1 demolition of the Terriers, Ederson set the champions on their way with a pinpoint pass from his own box to Sergio Agüero, who subsequently scored. Just don’t call it a hoof.
