Here’s how it works

Spread across three days, each features three singles matches, with one match of doubles. As the tournament progresses, the points awarded for a win increase, with one being awarded on the first day, two on the second and three on the third. As such, an early lead can be easily overturned as the tournament goes on, meaning the trophy should always be up for grabs going into the final day.

There are some seriously star-studded line-ups

Both teams are stacked with talent, so it’s difficult to predict which side will come out on top. Modern-day greats Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic lead the charge for Team Europe, while the towering Juan Martín del Potro and Wimbledon finalist Kevin Anderson line up for Team World. To top it all off, all-time legends Björn Borg and John McEnroe are captaining Team Europe and Team World, respectively, adding yet another sprinkling of stardust to the occasion.

Old rivalries resumed

While the likes of Federer and Djokovic are putting their rivalries aside to team up together for the first time, one of tennis’ greatest match-ups of all time will resume. Over 14 matches and three years, John McEnroe and Björn Borg served up one of sports fiercest and most competitive rivalries in sporting history. It remains to be seen whether McEnroe’s trademark temper will resurface as the teams go head to head.

It’s a platform for the next generation to shine

As well as including the established stars of the modern game, some of tennis’ brightest up-and-coming talents can be seen on both teams. For Team Europe, Alexander Zverev and British number one Kyle Edmund (pictured) round out a talented side, which also includes Gregor Dimitrov and David Goffin. Junior grand slam champion Nick Kyrgios and 2016 Olympic gold medallist Jack Sock line up for Team World, and are joined by Argentine Diego Schwartzman and the big-hitting John Isner.

Team World will be out for revenge…

Following Team World’s bruising 15-9 defeat in 2017, John McEnroe will be hoping to lead his side to glory this year. But while the team is packed with top talent, any side that includes Roger Federer is hard to overlook, with the Swiss still pulling off some of the best performances of his career, despite recently turning 37!
