2021 Virgin Media BAFTAs: the winners!

2021 Virgin Media BAFTAs: the winners!

Discover who triumphed at the 2021 Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards

By Virgin TV Edit

On Sunday 6 June, the prestigious ceremony  to celebrate top television from the past 12 months was held at BBC Studios. Telly’s biggest stars attended in person with social distancing, and virtually.

For the second year in a row, The IT Crowd’s Richard Ayoade announced this year’s winners. Michaela Coel and Paul Mescal won the Leading Actress and Leading Actor awards for their roles in I May Destroy You and Normal People, respectively.

Drama Series went to Lennie James’ Save Me Too, while Rakie Ayola picked up a gong for Supporting Actress for her part in Anthony. The award for Supporting Actor went to Malachi Kirby for Small Axe (Mangrove), and The Great House Giveaway was victorious in the newly introduced Daytime category.

Virgin Media was at the heart of the action, gaining exclusive chats with the winners, either backstage or via video chat. Check out our Twitter and Instagram pages for even more highlights from the night.

Other winners on the night included Romesh Ranganathan (Entertainment Performance – The Ranganation) and This Country star Charlie Cooper (Male Performance In A Comedy Programme). This year’s worthy winner of Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment Award, the only award voted for by the Great British public, was Britain’s Got Talent – Diversity perform a routine inspired by the events of 2020.

Make sure you check out our BGT episode of The Telly That Kept Us Talking, where award-winning documentary film-maker Cassam Looch asked the nation why the performance meant so much to them.

If you didn’t catch the ceremony, you can watch the whole thing in Apps & Games > BBC iPlayer right now!
