Al Murray asks Why Does Everyone Hate The English? in a brand new series on HISTORY®

Delve into the past and get ready to laugh with this new five-part series

Al Murray: Why Does Everyone Hate The English?, Monday 8 October, 9pm, HISTORY®/HD (CH 270/299). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > HISTORY

It’s the country that gave us seatbelts, the World Wide Web, and David Beckham. So why, asks comedian and proud patriot Al Murray, does everyone hate the English?

In a new and exclusive five-part series on HISTORY®, Murray is joined each week by a non-English comic to discuss, debate and dispute why the country has such a knack of rubbing its closest neighbours up the wrong way. (Hint: bloody battles and grisly revolutions might have played a sizeable part.)

And if you’re in any doubt as to whether the presenter’s boisterous pub landlord alter ego will make an appearance, don’t worry, he frequently pops up to give his, ahem, forthright opinions on the topic of England’s popularity.

Murray’s journey to get to the bottom of why the English are so despised takes him on an enlightening (and hilarious) jaunt from Scotland to Germany, via Wales, Ireland and France, and also sheds light on the history of England’s historical rivals and how they are perceived around the world. Before it all kicks off, read on below to see which funnymen will be arguing against the English…
