A US drama to die for

A US drama to die for

Here’s why you should reserve a spot on the sofa and tune into Bloodline on the Virgin TV Ultra HD channel

Landing on Virgin TV Ultra HD, this acclaimed series is part mystery, part thriller – and completely unmissable

Bloodline, Thursday 7 March, 9pm, Virgin TV Ultra HD (CH 999)

This stateside thriller centres on the Rayburns, a family that appears to have a cushy life on the gorgeous Florida Keys. Mum and dad run a local hotel, and are respected in the community, while three of their offspring enjoy successful careers and have families of their own. But when the black sheep of the family returns to help out at the hotel, it’s not long before old tensions – and chilling secrets – come bubbling to the surface.

What secrets, we hear you cry? Like we’d give the game away that easily. Let’s just say the Rayburns’ dark and murky past might be about to catch up with them.

Want to know more about Bloodline? We’ve got five reasons why this compelling drama needs your undivided attention.

1. It’s from the creators of Damages

Todd Kessler, Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman know how to make absorbing dramas. After all, these guys created the acclaimed legal thriller Damages, starring Glenn Close and Rose Byrne. There are some definite similarities between the two shows (twists, turns, A+ acting), but Bloodline benefits from a more brooding, enigmatic tone than its cousin.

2. The cast is cracking

Bloodline stars Kyle Chandler and Ben Mendelsohn

Bloodline
is swimming in top-tier screen talent, with superb turns from all to boot. Sissy Spacek and the late, great Sam Shepard play ma and pa Rayburn, while Kyle Chandler gives a compelling performance as John Rayburn, their detective son with a flawed home life. But it’s Ben Mendelsohn who really steals the show as returning son Danny. Mendelsohn picked up an Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmy for playing the wayward, chain-smoking sibling with a complex past.

3. The critics loved it

When it first aired in 2015, Bloodline was an instant hit. TV critics gushed about the show’s addictive, slow-burning drama and genuinely surprising twists. It also cropped up time and again in lists of the best shows of that year, cementing its status as one to watch. So, here’s your chance to see what all the fuss is about!

4. The setting is exquisite

Bloodline stars Sam Shepard and Ben Mendelsohn

Not been to the Florida Keys? You’ll want to go after watching Bloodline – even if the show depicts it as somewhere you might think twice about going for an all-inclusive. Unfolding beaches of gorgeous white sand, glistening emerald waters and majestic purple sunsets are an everyday occurrence in this part of the world. Think of it as a beautiful location that provides a perfect counterpoint to the dark drama.

5. You can watch it in sparkling UHD!

Did you know, Virgin TV Ultra HD is the UK’s only dedicated UHD entertainment channel? It’s true! With dazzling US dramas, amazing nature documentaries and rocking music concerts, it’s a picture-perfect feast of top telly that you really have to see to believe. And with no ad breaks, you can enjoy all of this without any interruptions!
