Jodie Whittaker is the best Doctor yet

Jodie Whittaker is the best Doctor yet

Here’s everything we love about the latest Doctor Who star ahead of the New Year’s Day special on BBC One

Well, that series of Doctor Who was just incredible…

Doctor Who, New Year’s Day, 7pm, BBC One HD (CH 101/108). Also available for 30 days in Catch Up > Channels > BBC iPlayer

VWORP! VWORP! VWORP! We’ve just time travelled back to 16 July 2017 when Jodie Whittaker was announced as the new lead in Doctor Who – the thirteenth incarnation of The Doctor, and the first woman to play the role. There were so many questions. What will Jodie be like? What will she wear? Who will be her companions? But the biggest question of all: how will she stack up against her predecessors?

Back in our own time (which is much colder than July 2017, by the way), we know Whittaker’s first season was an absolute triumph. Energetic, funny and a little bit fierce, her Doctor was completely fresh, yet totally familiar. The same, but different. She did what every single Doctor has done since Doc number one William Hartnell regenerated into Doc number two Patrick Troughton – she has made the role her own.

Now the Doctor is back in action with a New Year special. As the wandering traveller returns to Sheffield with Ryan (Tosin Cole), Graham (Bradley Walsh) and Yaz (Mandip Gill), a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history. Can Team TARDIS overcome the threat?

We wish we could travel forwards in time to watch the episode already, but it seems our time machine is out of Artron energy. Instead, here’s why we think Jodie’s Doctor might just be the best yet…

But wait, there’s more
