It’s a comedy about cancer. No, that’s not a typo. This sitcom follows Daniel Glass (Rupert Grint, Harry Potter), a young man who is diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer. Upon learning he was misdiagnosed, rather than celebrate his health, he conceals the truth on the ludicrous advice of his doctor, Dr Iain Glennis (Nick Frost, Hot Fuzz). It’s painfully funny stuff.
In series 1, we see Daniel’s lie begin to spiral out of control. And things are about to get even more outlandish in series 2. Daniel is still pretending to be ill, and now he’s getting his wires crossed with Dr Glennis. Plus, the police are hot on their heels over Ash’s death. The pressure is well and truly on.
If that’s not enough to look forward to, the legendary Lindsay Lohan has joined the cast for series 2, playing the daughter of Daniel’s boss Kenny (Don Johnson, Miami Vice). Plus, Daniel’s online gaming buddy, Will_5000 (Dustin Demri-Burns, Drunk History UK) has turned up and is threatening to expose Daniel’s secret. Also joining this eclectic cast for series 2 is Coronation Street favourite Alison King, who plays austere superintendent Christine Henchy.
If you’re a fan of the bleak humour of shows like Nighty Night, Ill Behaviour and Peep Show, and the accidental chaos of The Wrong Mans, don’t let Sick Note pass you by. Tune in this Thursday for a double bill series opener.
