Supergirl

While Supergirl and Arrow are a dynamic duo in the TV sphere, they exist in alternate realities. Earth One is what Arrow and the Flash call home, while Supergirl inhabits Earth 38, but let’s not get bogged down in the interdimensional details. Whatever the solar system, with her dazzling supersuit hidden beneath unassuming officewear and identity-shielding glasses ready to be whipped off at the slightest sniff of criminal activity, Superman’s cousin is every inch the Girl of Steel.

At the tender age of 13, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist, Glee) – real name Kara Zor-El, adopted name Kara Danvers – was sent to Earth from the dying planet Krypton. After struggling to accept her powers, she’s grown to embrace them, and now balances her life as a 24-year-old office worker with her super-duties. As we catch up with her in season 4, she’s in a bit of a bind – literally tied up in chains as masked villains surround her. Meanwhile, the people of America seem to have turned against superheroes and everything they stand for, thanks to the efforts of Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer, Smallville).

Arrow

What happens when the Green Arrow stops being the Green Arrow? The answer, it turns out, is not quite as straightforward as, well, Arrow’s arrow. After revealing his super-identity in season 6, we find hero Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) bloodied, bruised and locked up in a maximum-security prison at the start of season 7. And to make matters worse, there’s a vigilante copycat on the loose, tackling crime unchecked with the Green Arrow’s trusty bow. That’s a lot of arrows…

To be fair to Queen, perhaps a relaxing spell in the joint will do him some good; fighting crime is clearly exhausting and he’s had quite the time of it! You can bet his sizeable team of trusty sidekicks – including John Diggle (David Ramsey, Dexter), Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Black Canary (Juliana Harkavy), Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez, Reaper) and Mister Terrific (Echo Kellum), phew! – will have something to say about that.
