HELP

On this app you can watch over 100 live channels anywhere in the UK with Wi-Fi. You can search & browse what's on without taking over the big screen and using a full QWERTY keyboard. You can discover new TV shows and old favourites in our collections, share what you’re watching on Facebook & Twitter, and manage your TiVo recordings from anywhere - at home or abroad, on Wi-Fi or 3/4G, on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch.

At home, you can use the TV Anywhere app as an advanced remote control for your TiVo box, as long as your TiVo box is connected to your Super Hub via an Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi adapter or Powerline kit. The advanced remote controls allow you flick whatever show you find - live on TV, in your recordings, or in our huge On Demand library - straight to the TV to start playing. The remote control icon allows you to use gesture control, drag a button along the progress bar to exactly where you want to start watching without even having to fast-forward, or use all your other great TiVo remote control features.

You can find out more useful how-to information here

GETTING STARTED IN AWAY ACCESS MODE

The Virgin TV Anywhere app has two different modes. Away access mode lets you do lots of stuff like watching live channels, browsing through the TV guide, recording shows or deleting shows from your box without interrupting your show, and you can use this mode at home or when you're out and about.

Home mode does all that, and acts like a super advanced remote control for your TiVo box. Once you've signed in to the app, it will work out of there is a TiVo box connected to the same network, and will automatically switch to home mode and enable all of the remote control features.

Want to use Home mode? First you must connect your TiVo box to you home network, with an ethernet cableif they are close to each other, or with a powerline kit or smart TV wireless adapter if they are not in the same room.

At present, the Virgin TV Anywhere app cannot be used to view live TV over mobile connections. Also, the app cannot be used to watch On Demand shows or recordings from your TiVo box other than using the app to search through these shows and then play them on your TV.

You can watch TV on up to two registered devices per Virgin Media TV account. This includes computers, and you can also watch On Demand shows on TV Anywhere. See what you can watch here.

GETTING STARTED IN AWAY ACCESS MODE

For watching shows, seeing what's on and managing your TiVo box.

To get started with the app in Away access mode, all you need to do is sign in with the main Virgin Media account username and password when prompted by the app.

Your username is the email address you will have used when you registered for My Virgin Media. If you haven’t already registered for My Virgin Media or have forgotten your details, you can get help here.

The app will find any TiVo box connected to your Virgin Media TV account, and you can select the one you want to manage. If you have more than one TiVo box, you can check the TiVo Service Number on your TiVo box, and the last 4 digits of this number will be displayed on the app. You can then change the name of your TiVo box to Lounge, Bedroom or something else that will make it easier to identify next time.

GETTING STARTED IN HOME MODE

For using the app like a super remote control

STEP 1

Make sure your TiVo box is connected to your internet router using an Ethernet cable>. If your TiVo box is not in the same room as your router, you can connect using a Powerline kit or smart TV wireless adapter.

STEP 2

Now you need to check if your TiVo box is set to accept commands from your Virgin TV Anywhere app. By default, we do this for all TiVo boxes, but you may need to double-check if you’re a brand new customer. To do this, get your TiVo remote and go to Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Devices > Network Remote Control, then choose Allow network-based remote controls. If asked for a PIN, the default is 1234.

STEP 3

On your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, make sure you have Wi-Fi switched on and connected to the same network as your TiVo box.

STEP 4

Sign in with the main Virgin Media account username and password when prompted by the app. Your username is the email address you will have used when you registered for My Virgin Media. If you haven’t already registered for My Virgin Media or have forgotten your details, you can get help here.

STEP 5

The app will find any TiVo box connected to your Virgin Media TV account, and you can select the one you want to control & manage. If you have more than one TiVo box, you can check the TiVo Service Number on your TiVo box, and the last 4 digits of this number will be displayed on the app.

If you’re already signed in to Away mode, tap the remote control icon at the top right, then tap Connect to scan for boxes on your wireless network, and then select the TiVo box you want to control and manage.

STEP 6

You should now be connected! If you're having any problems, check out our trouble-shooting FAQs here.

It may take up to 24 hours after your TiVo is installed for it to be fully set up on our systems. During that time, you might not be able to access your recordings and series links via the TV Anywhere app in Away mode, and the app may display some incorrect error message. If that's the case, then try using the app again the next day.

WHAT IS A DEVICE?

A device is your iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, iPod touch, PC, Mac or on a wide range of Android mobiles or tablets. It's what you use to watch the great selection of programmes available on TV Anywhere. Up to two devices can be registered to watch shows on TV Anywhere.

WHAT IS A DEVICE CHANGE?

Device changes apply to devices that you want to watch live TV on. You can use as many devices as you like to set and manage your recordings, use the remote control function or to browse what’s on TV.

Each time you add a new device or swap devices, you are using one of your permitted 'device changes'.

You can register up to 2 devices. Once you have registered two devices, you will not be able to make another device change until the beginning of the following calendar month. After that, you can only make one device change per month.

You can keep track of your entitlement by selecting Device & Player Registration under the cog settings icon on the top left of the iPad app, or under the More > Settings button on iPhone and iPod touch.

HOW DO I REGISTER A DEVICE?

When you go to watch something for the first time on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you'll be asked to register your current device on the Virgin TV Anywhere device registration page that opens up in a browser window.

Assuming you haven't already used up your two available devices, you'll see a line with Available device slot. Click on REGISTER on the right of this line and you can give your device a name, such as "Johns iPhone" (certain characters like apostrophes are not allowed), and then click FINISHED.

If you have already used up your two devices, you'll need to delete one of your existing devices to make a slot available. Remember that you can only make a change once a month.

WHERE CAN I CHECK WHICH DEVICES I'VE REGISTERED?

You can check and change which devices you've got registered by selecting Device & Player Registration under the cog setting icon on the top left of the iPad app, or under the More > Settings button on iPhone and iPod touch.

HOW DO I RENAME A DEVICE?

On the Device & Player Registration page (see above), you can tap on the RENAME button next to the current name for that device. Renaming a device does not count towards your allowed device changes.

ON WHAT DEVICES CAN I USE TV ANYWHERE?

You can use TV Anywhere on the following devices:

  • iPod touch - 5th generation
  • iPad 2 or 3
  • iPad mini
  • iPad Air
  • iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5s, 5c, 6 or 6 plus

You require iOS version 7 and above to use TV Anywhere.

You can also watch TV Anywhere on PCs and Macs via a browser, and on a wide range of Android mobiles and tablets, but remember that these too count towards your device limit of two.

TAKE YOUR TIVO BOX WITH YOU

With Virgin TV Anywhere, you're always connected to your TiVo box, even when you're not home. This means you can do cool things like delete shows, see your planned recordings, and even record shows for later. Here's how.

RECORD A SHOW WHILE YOU'RE ON THE MOVE

STEP 1

Once you've found the show you want to record, select Record.

STEP 2

If you just want to record that episode, select Record this episode. To record the whole series, select Get a Series Link.

STEP 3

If you're a complete telly addict and you've nearly filled your TiVo box (wow, that's impressive!) the Virgin TV Anywhere app will tell you there isn't enough space. Luckily, you can still go into the My Shows tab to delete shows from your box.

STEP 4

Your show will be recorded and waiting for you next time you're snuggled up on your sofa. Enjoy!

DELETING SHOWS FROM YOUR BOX

STEP 1

Select My Shows from the bottom menu.

STEP 2

You'll see a list of all the shows that you have on your TiVo box. Select which one you'd like to delete.

STEP 3

STEP 4

When asked if you want to delete your show, select OK. It'll be deleted from your box, like magic.

CREATE A WISHLIST™

Got a favourite actor, director or show? Set a WishList Search and you can automatically record any programme that the actor or director is in or the show the next time it's on your Virgin TV service.

STEP 1

Use the search bar at the top right of the screen to enter the title of the show or name of the actor you're interested in. A list of matches will appear. Tap on the best match to see more information.

STEP 2

If you select an actor or director, or a show that isn't available to record, the WishList button will appear in the top right of your screen. Tap this to set up your WishList.

STEP 3

In the options page, slide the Auto-Record button to make sure your shows are recorded, then select your recording options. Once you're happy with your options, tap on Save WishList.

CONTROL

A SUPER REMOTE FOR YOUR TIVO BOX

Put down that remote and pick up your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Virgin TV Anywhere makes controlling your box even easier with simple, responsive, gesture-based controls.

BUTTONS OR FLICKS?

Choose between buttons just like the ones on your TiVo remote control and clever finger-flicking gestures to pause, rewind, fast-forward and find your way around your TiVo menu.

USING THE BUTTONS

SCROLL PAD

Use this to scroll around the menu on your TiVo box.

PLAY BUTTONS

Play, pause, rewind and fast forward here.

NUMBER PAD

Just like on your remote, you can use these buttons to pick a channel.

THUMBS

Press the thumbs buttons here and your TiVo box will remember things you like and don't like so it can make even more clever recommendations in future. Use the green thumb up if you like a programme. Use the red thumb down if you don't. Your choice will be sent directly to your TiVo box so it will remember what you like to watch in future.

Your username is the email address you will have used when you registered for My Virgin Media. If you haven’t already registered for My Virgin Media or have forgotten your details, you can get help here.

WHAT DEVICE SHOULD I REGISTER?

Before you register a device you should know that, because channels provide us with different rights, there are differences between what you can watch on Virgin TV Anywhere on the app, which is available exclusively to TiVo customers, and what you can watch on a computer.

You can see the channel line-up on both services here. On Demand shows can only be viewed on a computer.

You do not need to register a device on which you are just using the app to manage your TiVo box.

CAN I USE VIRGIN TV ANYWHERE WHILE WATCHING MY TV?

Yes! You can browse TV listings and much more without interrupting what you're watching

CAN I USE VIRGIN TV ANYWHERE ON THE MOVE?

Yes. You can watch live TV anywhere in the UK where you can connect to a Wi-Fi network. You can watch Live TV in another room of the house (no more arguments!), in a hotel, on a Virgin train or in a coffee shop – anywhere with Wi-Fi.

If you'd like to find out what's on TV now and later, set or delete recordings, and loads more, you can do this at home or abroad, over Wi-Fi or over a 3/4G mobile network.

CAN I WATCH VIRGIN TV ANYWHERE WHEN I'M ABROAD?

If you are connected to Wi-Fi anywhere in the UK you can watch live TV using Virgin TV Anywhere. If you're abroad or on a mobile 3G or 4G connection, you can still use TV Anywhere to manage your TiVo viewing, set recordings & WishLists, delete recordings, and browse and search to Discover shows you might like.

WHAT CHANNELS CAN I WATCH?

The channels available for you to view depends on the TV package you subscribe to.

The current channel line up on the online and app service is available here. Note that our On Demand shows are only available to watch on a computer.

We're adding new channels all the time, so keep checking back!

CAN I WATCH ON DEMAND CONTENT USING THE APP?

You can search for On Demand content on the app and play what you want to watch on the TV. Currently you cannot watch On Demand content on your tablet, mobile or iPod touch device.

SKY CINEMA & SKY SPORTS

To watch Sky Cinema or Sky Sports on your tablet or mobile, you need to subscribe to Sky Cinema or Sky Sports respectively with Virgin Media, and then you need to download the Sky Cinema or Sky Sports app, click on the Virgin Media logo on the sign-in page, and then sign in with your My Virgin Media username and password.

Other Sky live channels such as Sky 1, Sky 2, Sky Arts, Sky Living, Real Lives, Sky News and Sky Sports News HQ are available to watch on the TV Anywhere app, as long as you have them in your Virgin Media TV package.

Sky On Demand shows, with the exception of Sky Cinema and Sky Sports on demand programmes, are available on TV Anywhere on PCs and Macs at virginmedia.com/tvanywhere.

To use the app at home as an advanced remote control, your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch will need to be connected to the same router as your TiVo box.

CAN I USE VIRGIN TV ANYWHERE WHEN THE TIVO BOX IS SWITCHED OFF?

If your TiVo box is switched off, you'll just see a message saying you've lost your connection to the TiVo box, but you can use Virgin TV Anywhere when the box is in Standby.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE OR CHANGE MY IPAD, IPHONE OR IPOD TOUCH?

If you lose or change your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, all you need to do is download the app again. You'll need to register your new one if you want to watch live TV using the app.

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE DAY AND TIME?

HOW DO I SEE LISTINGS FOR ONE PARTICULAR CHANNEL?

Just click on the channel name and you'll see the listings for that channel.

DO I NEED TO CONNECT MY TIVO BOX TO MY ROUTER FOR VIRGIN TV ANYWHERE TO WORK?

You can still manage your viewing, set recordings, browse the TV listings, delete recordings and more without connecting your TiVo box to your router, but to use the app as an advanced remote control, you'll need to connect your TiVo box to a wireless router with an Ethernet cable. The router needs to have a working broadband connection for Virgin TV Anywhere to work. You'll need to do this before you start using the app, so everything will work perfectly. If your TiVo box is in a different room to your Super Hub or router we'd recommend you use Powerline a smart TV wireless adapter.

CAN I USE TV ANYWHERE WITH MORE THAN ONE TIVO BOX?

Yes, you can. You can set Virgin TV Anywhere up to be paired with all your TiVo boxes, though you can only control one TiVo box at a time. If you want to switch to another TiVo box then on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch tap on the drop down box found to the left on the top bar of the screen on your iPad or select the More tab on your iPhone or iPod touch and then Selected DVR, then tap the box number you want to connect to and then tap Done. If you want the app to scan for a newly connected box, then the easiest way to do this is sign out of the box to which you're currently connected.

USING VIRGIN TV ANYWHERE, HOW CAN I RECOVER RECORDINGS I HAVE DELETED?

You'll need to use either your TiVo remote or use the remote button on your Virgin TV Anywhere app. Using either of these to control your TiVo box, select My Shows then go to the bottom of the list on you TV screen where you'll find the Recently Deleted folder. Sorry! Due to rights issues, Virgin TV Anywhere is only for streaming shows, so you won't be able to download them.

No. The channels we show are copy-protected by the owners of the content.

CAN I PLAY RECORDINGS FROM MY TIVO BOX TO MY APP OR TO MY PC?

Unfortunately we do not have the rights to be able to play recorded shows from your TiVo box to your app or your PC, but it's something we are looking at for the future. If you have more than one TiVo box in your home, you can however play recordings from one box to another using multi-room streaming.

CAN I WATCH TV ANYWHERE VIA PROXY SERVERS?

You can’t watch TV behind some proxy servers (non-SOCKS proxies that don't support RTMP). This is in order to protect the rights of our content owners.

HOW COME SOME LIVE TV SHOWS ARE BLANKED OUT?

Some channels may not have the rights to show certain programmes on certain devices. If this happens, these programmes will need to be blanked out and you will see a message telling you that the show can't be viewed on your device. This mainly happens with live sports events or on UK channels with a lot of US shows. If the show is blanked out on the TV Anywhere app, it will also be blanked on our PC service. Our system to blank out certain shows uses schedule data, as opposed to transmission data. This means that blanking will be turned on for the duration of the blanked out programme’s time slot. You can still record a show that has been blanked however to watch at home on your TiVo box.

DO I NEED TO LOG IN TO THE APP ON MY MAIN VIRGIN MEDIA ACCOUNT OR CAN I USE A SUB-ACCOUNT?

To use the app, you must log in with your main Virgin Media account. Sub-accounts may not use the service or they could register devices on the service without the knowledge or permission of the main account holder.

ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS ON SHOWS SHOWN ON THE LIVE TV ANYWHERE CHANNELS?

No. There are no age restrictions or parental controls on the programmes shown on live TV Anywhere channels, although the normal watershed rules apply to anything being shown on these channels.

DO IOS ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES WORK IN THE TV ANYWHERE APP?

Yes. If your device supports accessibility services such as Voiceover, large text, zoom, inverted colours etc, then our app will work with these services.
