How do I update my Virgin Media email settings?

Please make sure the server settings on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch match the settings at Email Settings for all Virgin Media domains. This applies for POP, IMAP and SMTP server settings.

If you need some help with changing your settings, we’ve put together some help.

To find out whether you’re using POP or IMAP:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open the settings for your Mail account. Depending on your version of iOS this may found in:
    Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    Settings > Mail
    Settings > Accounts and Passwords
    Settings > Passwords & Accounts
  3. Find the Incoming mail server settings

The server name still start with either POP3 or POP if you’re using a POP server, or IMAP if you’re using an IMAP server. Follow the appropriate instructions below to update your settings.

To update your POP Server settings:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open the settings for your Mail account. Depending on your version of iOS this may found in:
    • Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    • Settings > Mail
    • Settings > Accounts and Passwords
    • Settings > Passwords & Accounts
  3. Find the Incoming mail server settings

  4. Change the POP settings to:
    • Host Name: pop3.virginmedia.com
    • Username: Your full email address e.g. Richard.Branson@ntlworld.com

  5. Select Advanced
  6. Find Incoming Settings

  7. Update the Settings to:
    • Select Use SSL
    • Server Port: 995

  8. Tap back to go back to the account settings
  9. Tap on SMTP in the Outgoing mail server settings
  10. Select smtp.ntlworld.com
  11. Find the Outgoing Mail Server settings

  12. Update the settings to:
    • Host Name: smtp.virginmedia.com
    • Username: Your full email address e.g. Richard.Branson@ntlworld.com
    • Password: Your Virgin Media Mail password
    • Authentication: Password
    • Select Use SSL
    • Server Port: 465

  13. Tap Done to check and save your new SMTP settings. Your SMTP server name will updated to show smtp.virginmedia.com
  14. Tap Back to return to the mail settings
  15. Tap Done to check and save your new POP settings

To update your IMAP Server settings:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Open the settings for your Mail account. Depending on your version of iOS this may found in:
    • Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
    • Settings > Mail
    • Settings > Accounts and Passwords
    • Settings > Passwords & Accounts
  3. Find the Incoming mail server settings

  4. Change the IMAP settings to:
    • Host Name: imap.virginmedia.com
    • Username: Your full email address e.g. Richard.Branson@ntlworld.com

  5. Select Advanced
  6. Find Incoming Settings
  7. Update the settings to:
    • Select Use SSL
    • Server Port: 993
  8. Tap Back to go back to the account settings
  9. Tap on SMTP in the Outgoing mail server settings
  10. Select smtp.ntlworld.com
  11. Find the Outgoing Mail Server settings

  12. Update the settings to:

    • Password: Your Virgin Media Mail password

  13. Tap Done to check and save your new SMTP settings. Your SMTP server name will updated to show smtp.virginmedia.com
  14. Tap Back to return to the mail settings
  15. Tap Done to check and save your new IMAP settings
