How to set up and manage voicemail for Virgin Media landline

Our £2.25 a month and free voicemail services store messages recorded by callers – to help you decide how urgently to return their missed calls or tell you everything you needed to know.

What is voicemail?

Our £2.25 a month and free voicemail services store messages recorded by callers – to help you decide how urgently to return their missed calls or tell you everything you needed to know. By dialling the code for voicemail, you’ll get a menu of options to play, delete or save messages, all in your own time. And there’s more features you can make your own. But first, you’ll need to set up your voicemail. See our phone user guide. Or let’s go through it step-by-step together…

How to use Free Voicemail

Included as standard on your phone plan. Your messages can be:

  • Up to 1 minute long

  • Stored, un-played for 21 days

  • Kept for 3 days when you’ve had a listen

  • And 10 voicemails can be saved

  1. Install your Virgin Media home phone and dial 1571 for Free Voicemail.

  2. Follow the set up instructions, that only play the first time you ring this number. You can also record a voicemail greeting for up to 30 seconds with up to 5 seconds to say your name.

If you have a voicemail message, you’ll hear the dial tone when you pick up your home phone.

  1. Ring 1571 and choose the option to listen to your messages. Or press 0 for help.

  2. Hear your voicemails play in date and time order.

  3. Listen to the full message for the chance to save, delete or re-play again.

If your Free Voicemail deactivates due to 90 days of inactivity, call 1571 to reactivate.

Call 1571 and choose the option to cancel Free Voicemail.

How to use Voicemail Plus

Remote access is why most people upgrade to Voicemail Plus for £3 a month – on any phone or mobile, you can check your messages, even while you’re away from home. There’s also the bonus New Message Arrived beep, as well as Call Divert that sends missed callers to voicemail, including those who tried when you were already on the phone. And if you don’t want to be disturbed by ringing, you can even set up Immediate Call Divert. To find out more, see our guide to landline call features. And that’s not all. Compared to Free Voicemail, your Voicemail Plus messages can be:

  • 3x longer (up to 3 minutes each)

  • Stored, un-played for 21 days

  • Kept for a week extra when you’ve had a listen (10 days total)

  • Paused, rewound or fast-forwarded by 10 seconds when you’re playing messages

  • Undeleted

  • Plus, 30 voicemails can be saved (that’s 3 times more)

  1. Upgrade to Voicemail Plus. Call 150 on your Virgin Media home phone or mobile, 0345 454 1111* on any phone.

  2. Give us 24 hours to add Voicemail Plus to your account, then dial 1571.

  3. Follow the step-up instructions, that only play the first time you call this number. You can also:

  • Record a voicemail greeting for up to 1 minute with up to 8 seconds to say your name – that’s 3 more seconds than our Free Voicemail.

  • Set up your PIN so you can pick up messages when you’re not at home.

To listen to your voicemails while you’re out:

  1. Dial your home phone number (calls to remotely access your voicemail are charged at standard rates).

  2. Press * when you hear the message.

  3. Enter your PIN and press # – you get 3 attempts to get this right and continue the call. If you’ve forgotten your PIN or need help, just give us a call.

  4. Follow the instructions or press option 0 for help.

If you’re at home and you hear the dial tone when you pick up your phone, telling you that you have a voicemail:

  1. Ring 1571 and choose the option to listen to your messages. Or press 0 for help.

  2. Hear your voicemails play in date and time order.

Your phone isn’t ringing long enough before going to voicemail?
