How do I put my Virgin Media hub into modem mode?

Select your Virgin Media Hub below for information on how to enable and disable modem mode on your Hub.

Hub 3.0

Enabling modem mode allows you to connect your own WiFi kit to the Hub 3.0, effectively turning the Hub 3.0 into a stand alone DOCSIS3 cable modem.

To enable modem mode on your Hub 3.0

1. Make sure you are connected (wired or wirelessly) to your Hub 3.0

2. Open your Internet browser

3. Log in to your Super Hub's settings page by entering 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your Internet browser

4. Enter your Hub 3.0 settings password. The default password is printed on the bottom of the Hub 3.0. If you have changed the default password, enter that password instead

5. Once you've logged in, click Modem Mode on the left

6. Click the option next to Enable Modem Mode and then click Apply changes

Note: Once in Modem Mode, the IP address you use to access your Super Hub changes from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.100.1.


How to put the Hub 3.0 back into Router mode

There are two ways to get your Super Hub back into Hub mode:

1. Open a web browser and enter 192.168.100.1 into the address bar

2. Enter your Hub 3.0 settings password. The default password is printed on the bottom of the Hub 3.0. If you have changed the default password, enter that password instead

3. Once you've logged in, click Modem Mode on the left

4. Click the option next to Disable Modem Mode and then click Apply changes

5. The Hub will reboot and return to router mode


Pin hole reset

You can reset the Hub 3.0 to factory settings which will restart the Hub 3.0 into router mode. To find out how to do a pin hole reset, check Resetting your Virgin Media Hub.

Note: this will reset any changes you have made to the Hub 3.0 settings.

Super Hub 2ac

Enabling modem mode allows you to connect your own WiFi kit to the new Super Hub, effectively turning the Super Hub into a stand alone DOCSIS3 cable modem.

To enable modem mode on your new Super Hub

1. Make sure you are connected (wired or wirelessly) to your new Super Hub

2. Open your Internet browser

3. Log in to your Super Hub's settings page by entering 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of your Internet browser. If you have changed the IP address of your Super Hub, you will need to enter its new address into the address bar instead

4. Enter your Super Hub's administration username and password. The default details are printed on the bottom of the Super Hub. If you have changed the default username or password, enter those details instead

5. Once you've logged in, click Super Hub Settings to see the Modem Mode section

6. Click the Enable Modem Mode button. A pop-up will ask you to confirm your selection

7. Click Yes to continue. Your Super Hub will reboot and enter Modem Mode

8. Click Home

Note: Once in Modem Mode, the IP address you use to access your Super Hub changes from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.100.1


How do I get the Super Hub back in to Router mode after it’s been in Modem Mode?

There are two ways to get your Super Hub back into Hub mode:

How can I tell if the Super Hub is in modem mode without logging in to the administration interface?

The large button on the front of the Super Hub will be purple instead of the usual blue colour.

How do I get the Super Hub back in to Router mode after its been in Modem Mode?

There are two ways to get your Super Hub back into Hub mode:

1. Access the Super Hub’s settings page via the web page shown on the back of the unit. If you have enabled Modem Mode on your Super Hub (the logo on the front will be glowing purple) you will need to use 192.168.100.1 instead

2. Once you've logged in, click Super Hub Settings

3. In the Modem Mode section, click the Disable Modem Mode button

You’ll see a pop-up asking you to confirm the change.

4. Click Yes to continue

Your Super Hub will reboot and return to hub mode.
