What is Intelligent WiFi from Virgin Media?

Our Intelligent WiFi technology is installed on our Hub 3. It’s a system that adapts to exactly what’s happening in your home to help deliver the most reliable WiFi signal from our Hub 3 to your devices.  It regularly checks to see if your WiFi is congested and switches your devices to the quietest channel for superfast speeds. It also shares WiFi fairly between your devices, so data-hungry gadgets like smart TVs and games consoles don’t hog all the bandwidth.

Better still, you can take control of your WiFi with the clever Virgin Media Connect app. It’ll help you set up our services, scan your home to check signal strength and tackle common WiFi hiccups. Plus, you can see how many devices are connected to your Hub and pause the internet to some of them. All this creates a smarter WiFi network.

Download and set up the Virgin Media Connect app on your compatible iOS or Android device. It’ll help you set up your home WiFi, then check your WiFi signal from room to room.

Simply tap ‘Start the scan’ and let the app take over to work out if something’s getting in the way of your WiFi. If the scan finds a WiFi blackspot in a hard-to-reach room, you can order an intelligent WiFi Booster to tackle it (at no extra monthly cost for Virgin Fibre customers with Full House TV) right through the app.

You can also use the Connect app to see how many devices are connected to your WiFi, and even pause the internet to some devices (handy if it’s gone past the little ones’ bedtime). 

On top of this, you can use it to connect to over 3.5 million Virgin Media WiFi hotspots across the UK.

If you find a WiFi blackspot in a hard-to-reach room with the Virgin Media Connect app, you can order an intelligent WiFi Booster to tackle it (at no extra monthly cost for Virgin Fibre customers with Full House TV) straight through the app.

Plus, it’ll help you stay connected abroad with over 20 million WiFi hotspots across the world – and the number’s growing all the time! This means you get to save your mobile data for when you really need it. 

You can also use the Connect app to check your allowances to see exactly what you’re using. 

If you’re using the Connect app on a device with a Virgin Mobile SIM card, the app will authenticate you using your SIM card details and automatically sign you in as a Virgin Mobile customer.

If you’re also a Virgin Fibre customer, lucky you! You’ll be able to enjoy the full features of the Connect app. As soon as you access the Broadband tab in the app, you’ll be asked to sign in using your Virgin Media account details for your Virgin Fibre service. You’ll then be signed in as a dual Virgin Mobile and Virgin Fibre customer.

The Virgin Media Connect app helps you optimise your home WiFi in just a few clicks. Head to the Broadband tab of the app, click on 'Scan for WiFi blackspots' and follow the on-screen instructions. If it finds any issues, the app will give you advice on the next steps to help optimise your WiFi.

Once the initial scan is complete you’ll be shown a map of scanned locations. You’ll then be able to scan new locations around your home by clicking on the 'Add a new location' icon, or to re-scan any locations.
