How do I change my Virgin TV box's standby settings?

Virgin TV V6, powered by TIVO

By default your Virgin TV V6 box will go into standby if it hasn’t been used for four hours. Don’t worry, your Virgin TV V6 box will always record any shows you have scheduled to be recorded during the standby time.

If you want to change when your Virgin TV V6 box goes into standby, you can do so. To change your default setting:

  1. Press Home on your remote
  2. Select Help & Settings
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Devices
  5. Select Power Saving Settings

The power saving settings you can choose are:

  • Always On - Your Virgin TV V6 box won't power down, no matter how long you haven't used it. If you want to turn it off, press the On/Standby button on your remote
  • Connected Low Power - Your Virgin TV V6 box will power down if you don't use it for 4 hours - you'll still be able to watch your recordings in another room, use the Virgin TV app as normal, and Suggestions will still record
  • Eco Low Power – Your Virgin TV V6 box will completely power down if you don't use it for 4 hours - if you still want to watch your recordings in another room, use the Virgin TV app as normal, and Suggestions to record when your box is powered down, you can select Connected Low Power mode instead

When your box is in standby mode, you’ll see a red light to the right on the front panel, but no picture or sound. To get things started again you just need to wake up your Virgin TV V6 box. This is easy; just press any of these buttons on your V6 remote:

  • Home
  • TV
  • Channel up/down
  • Any number key
  • On/Standby


 

TIVO

By default your TiVo box will go into standby if it hasn’t been used for four hours. Don’t worry, your TiVo box will always record any shows you have scheduled to be recorded during the standby time.

If you want to change when your TiVo box goes into standby, you can do so. To change your default setting:

  1. Press Home on your remote
  2. Select Help & Settings
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Devices
  5. Select Power Saving Settings

The power saving settings you can choose are:

  • Off (no power saving) - your TiVo box will remain on until you press Standby on your remote
  • Snooze (Suggestions On) - after being idle for 4 hours, your TiVo box will enter standby, Suggestions will be recorded. This is the default option
  • Snooze (Suggestions Off) – after being idle for 4 hours, your TiVo box will enter standby, Suggestions will not be recorded
  • Sleep - to save the most power this mode means your TiVo box will go into standby after 2 hours of inactivity and Suggestions will not be recorded

When your box is in standby mode, you’ll see a red light to the left on the front panel, but no picture or sound. To get things started again you just need to wake your TiVo box up. This is easy, just press any of these buttons on your TiVo remote:

  • Any number key
  • On/Standby
