Don’t miss a beat with Virgin Media in 2016
6th January 2016
Here’s what you can expect from the Virgin Media corporate team during 2016.
@VirginMediaCorp is the go-to place for our latest news and commentary - on what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.
There’s a lot to look forward to this year: up-to-date news concerning the expansion of our industry-leading infrastructure and the rollout of new products and services; commentary relating to major public policy developments; regular updates on our sustainability and charitable work; and much more analysis of our national campaigns such as the #MoreBalls campaign which calls for reform to the way the Premier League sells live TV rights.
Biggest network expansion
We’ll be covering the continued success of Lightning, our £3bn infrastructure investment programme. It’s the UK’s largest investment in broadband infrastructure for more than a decade, and will take our ultrafast network to an extra 4 million homes and businesses. We’re creating thousands of new jobs and apprenticeships in what is also a multi-billion pound boost to the national economy.
Last year we launched VIVID, the best way to experience the internet with speeds of up to 200Mbps – faster than any of our rivals. Our next generation optical fibre means that Virgin Media customers can simultaneously stream movies, music and more, enjoying unlimited downloads on multiple devices.
Out of the home, we made it possible for the public in Chesham to ‘streetsurf’ with ultrafast connectivity through innovative Smart Pavements. We also expanded our London Underground WiFi offering to a further 100 stations, meaning that almost all tube stations in London now have WiFi connectivity. In 2016 we’ll be unleashing our network in even more locations.
Unforgettable TV programmes
In December, our new TV programming strategy brought the long-awaited cult US TV show Ash vs Evil Dead to our customers. Stay tuned for more top quality programmes in 2016.
Digital that makes good things happen
As the digital landscape continues to change rapidly, we will be finding even more ways to grow our business responsibly and sustainably. We’ll be sticking to our big five sustainability goals, as well as working to do more good with digital - through Virgin Media Pioneers and our national partnership with the disability charity Scope.
Virgin Media Business will this year increase business broadband speeds to 300Mbps - almost four times faster than our competitors. There’s also this year’s Pitch to Rich competition, the call for the UK's best entrepreneurs, our 'Virgin Media Accelerator, powered by Techstars' programme, the search for innovative digital start-ups, as well as much more news around our Tech City rollout.
