Craig David connects with fans in Southampton to celebrate arrival of the UK's fastest home broadband

Southampton born super-star, Craig David, returned to his home city to perform an exclusive free gig to celebrate the arrival of the UK’s fastest broadband.

The crowd, made up of fans from across the UK, had the chance to get up close and personal and connect with the star in a bespoke, purpose built venue in the grounds of St Mary’s Stadium.

Lucky fans danced the night away to Craig’s critically acclaimed TS5 set, after being selected in a ticket ballot that gathered thousands of entries. Music enthusiasts were also treated to a set from support act Joel Corry.

A life-long Saints fan, Craig wrote his smash hit debut album ‘Born To Do It’, including chart toppers 7Days, Fill Me In and Walking Away in the city, and returned home for the intimate, one-off gig to mark the arrival of the UK’s fastest broadband speeds in Southampton.

Earlier in the day, Craig limbered up for his performance in a series of drills and challenges alongside Premier League players Ryan Bertrand, Che Adams and Angus Gunn – even scoring a penalty against the admired goalkeeper.

Craig said: “I’ve been a Saints fan all my life so to play a gig at St Mary’s Stadium to celebrate bringing my hometown the best connection in the UK is amazing. I have nothing but fantastic memories in Southampton and I hope the crowd had an unforgettable night.”

The performance celebrated the switching on of Virgin Media’s gigabit broadband service in

Southampton, with residents being the first to benefit from the UK’s fastest broadband speeds.

Jeff Dodds, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media, said: “With it being just over a week since we switched on gigabit speeds across Southampton, the night was a celebration and a chance for us to give the people of Southampton a night out on us. Bringing Craig back home to perform a hit-filled set was the perfect way to do this – we hope everyone had as much fun as we did.”
