Virgin Media mobile customers can now “Trade Up” old handsets

19th October 2016

Virgin Media mobile customers now have the freedom to upgrade their phone and get the latest handsets before the end of their contract, through a new offering called Freestyle Trade Up.

With Freestyle Trade Up, Virgin Media Freestyle customers can upgrade early by using their current phone’s remaining value to offset what’s left to pay on their handset contract.

Virgin Media launched Freestyle in 2014 giving its customers ultimate flexibility by separating their handset and airtime contracts.  Freestyle gives customers the option to change their tariff every month to suit their needs; whether this is more or less data, extra minutes or reducing their monthly payment. Customers can always take control and get the tariff that suits them. Freestyle customers can also upgrade anytime by just paying off the handset part of the contract; this has now been extended with Virgin Media’s Trade Up offering, which allows customers to use the value of their phone to pay off their handset contract.

To Trade Up, existing Freestyle customers simply contact Virgin Media’s mobile team, where their existing phone will be valued and the amount put towards paying off their current handset loan. A pre-paid jiffy bag is sent, so the customer can send back their old handset - with old phones and parts recycled or refurbished. The 24 month Freestyle contract is then refreshed with the ability to Trade Up again at any time.

Annie Brooks Director of Mobile at Virgin Media said: “Virgin Media customers have the flexibility to get what they need and what they want from their mobile tariff as their circumstances change. Not only can our customers move up and down our mobile plans on a monthly basis to adapt to their changing usage, but they can now trade in their existing phone and get the latest handsets at incredible value. With much more coming from Virgin Media over the next few months - our mobile customers have lots to look forward to.”

Over 90 phones, including all major handsets and the new iPhone 7 are available on Freestyle contracts, with prices starting from £8.50 a month for an airtime and handset package.
